Conversations: Caring across cultures from 1-2 p.m. today
Join us and a panel of experts as we discuss caring across cultures. About one-third of family caregivers in Washington state are Hispanic or Latino, Native American or Alaska Native, or other minority racial and ethnic backgrounds. Different cultural backgrounds bring different caregiving practices but also share many similarities.
Our panel will discuss:
- Some of these cultural differences and similarities
- The importance of cultural awareness for caregivers
- How family caregivers can become paid caregivers under WA Cares
- Other resources available for caregivers

Spotlight on ProviderOne from 11 a.m. to noon on Sept. 9
We are registering a diverse range of qualified providers to serve WA Cares Fund beneficiaries. WA Cares providers will use the Washington State Health Care Authority’s ProviderOne website to create pre-authorizations and submit claims for payment.
We will cover:
- What is ProviderOne
- How to use the site
- How to create pre-authorizations
- And more
Basics for employers from 1-2 p.m. on Sept. 16
Knowing there is money set aside for care in the future gives workers peace of mind today. WA Cares makes long-term care insurance accessible for all Washington workers. Washington employers are required to report their employees’ wages and hours and pay premiums every quarter.
We will cover:
- How workers meet the contribution requirement
- Who can get an exemption
- Employer reporting requirements
- What services and supports are available
- And more
All webinars will include an opportunity for audience Q&A and include live captioning. Simultaneous translations will be available.

Terms to know: WA Cares benefits account
You’ll use your WA Cares benefits account to apply for and manage your WA Cares benefits. You’ll create your benefits account through SecureAccess Washington — the single sign-on website for accessing many state services. You can also use a benefits account to request an annual statement, which is designed to help people understand their progress toward earning benefits before they apply.

Featured service: Memory care
Memory care is specialized, 24/7 long-term care for individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia or severe cognitive impairment in a safe and structured environment. You can use your benefits to cover memory care services in assisted living facilities that have a memory care certification.

Monthly FAQ: How does out-of-state coverage work?
Washington workers can continue participating in WA Cares even if they move out of state. To become an out-of-state participant, workers must not have an active WA Cares exemption, have contributed for at least three years (in which they worked at least 500 hours per year) and must opt in within a year of leaving Washington. Benefits will become available for out-of-state participants starting in July 2030.
