Maryland introduced House Bill 349 on January 17, 2024 requiring the Department of Aging to contract with an independent consultant to conduct an insurance study on public and private options for leveraging resources to help individuals prepare for long-term care services and support needs. The Department is required to submit an update report by December 31, 2024 that summarizes the progress of the study. A final report of the study’s findings is due by December 31, 2025 to the Governor and General Assembly.

In February 2024, the bill was canceled and the Senate sponsor withdrew the bill.
