Initial Long Term Care Training |
Non-Partnership: 8 Hour Course (Online only) Partnership: 7 Hour LTC Partnership (Classroom only) and the 8 Hour LTC Course (Online) UPDATE 7-12-17 (per Transamerica). When selling a Partnership plan, you must have the 7 hour classroom and 8 hour traditional and any 5 hour refreshers (if applicable). Both Trans and Genworth indicate that on the 5 hour refresher, there can be a combination of courses that total up to 5 hours in a license renewal period. For example, some providers have a 3 hour course that must be taken each year. So for the total 24 month license renewal period, there will be a total of 6 LTC course hours taken which will be accepted as the 5 hour refresher. |
Refresher Training |
Non-Partnership: Must complete 5 hours of LTC CE during each 2 year license renewal period Partnership: None |
Training Reciprocity Between States |
RESIDENT ADVISORS: Indiana CE can ONLY be used in Indiana. If you are writing in another State, you will have to have an 8 hour NAIC CE from another state. For example Indiana advisor wishes to write a case in Florida, he must have an NAIC 8 hour LTC from Florida or another NAIC approved state NON-RESIDENT ADVISORS: On the flip side of this rule, an advisor in a different resident state, writing a Traditional LTC application in Indiana, can use their resident state CE. The only states that are NOT reciprocal or NOT will allow this are: AZ, CA, IL, KY and TX (as of 11/28/23 per Bill @ Clearcert) NON-RESIDENT ADVISOR MOVING FROM ORIGINAL STATE TO INDIANA: If an advisor was a resident of one state and had taken his CE in that state and then moved to Indiana, the CE from the original NAIC state would be accepted as the initial 8 hour and then the advisor would be required to keep current by taking 5 hour LTC training for Indiana going forward with NO LAPSE IN TRAINING. If there is a lapse in taking the 5 hour course, a new 8 hour Indiana course will be required. This was confirmed in writing from the Indiana Department of Insurance on 1/27/21. For example an advisor moved from his resident state of Georgia and his new resident state is Indiana, his initial 8 hour GA CE would be accepted in Indiana and he would then be required to take his 5 hour Indiana refresher every 24 month license renewal period. CARRIER LIMITATIONS: Nationwide - They partially follow the non-resident reciprocity rule. If you are a non-resident writing in Indiana, you must take at least the 5 hour refresher for Indiana (if you've already taken the 8 hour in your resident state). For Example: Option 1: Advisor is a resident of Illinois, they are in CE compliance with at least the 8 hour and usually with 8 and 4 hour, the advisor MUST take the 5 hour refresher in Indiana. Nationwide will acknowledge the 8 hour initial but they will not accept the 4 hour refresher because it is different than the refresher requirement for Indiana which is 5 Hours. Option 2: Advisor is a resident of Illinois and has his 8 hour, Nationwide will accept it and advisor has 4 hour refresher which is still good for Illinois, but it does not add up to the 5 hour refresher requirement for Indiana, Nationwide will accept a combination of CE courses taken within a 24 month period. For example: 4 hour in Illinois and a 2 hour taken in a non-resident state like GA/MA/VA. The 4 + 2 = 6 hour which surpasses the 5 hour Indiana requirement. |
Training/Lapse Guidelines |
Refresher must be taken during each 2 year license renewal period. LAPSE IN TRAINING IS NOT ALLOWED. IF YOU DO NOT TAKE THE 5 HOUR REFRESHER PRIOR TO THE LAPSE DATE, YOU WILL HAVE TO START OVER WITH THE 8 HOUR COURSE (AS OF 8/9/13) |
