Have you heard of 23 and me?   It's a Google-backed startup that is offering complete home genetic testing for $99 by sending in a saliva sample.

On Monday, the FDA ordered the company to stop selling its kits, and many have taken to Twitter to protest the decision.

This fascinating article below from Fast Company discusses the story of the company.  As part of the story, the author had their young daughter tested and discovered she has the APOE-4 gene, and therefore a greater than 50/50 chance of developing Alzheimer's.  In addition, the implications for long-term care insurance are discussed.
